SYNOPSIS: Komapsumnida
is a story about how a single mother, her grandfather and
her daughter changed the life of a heartbroken, bitter doctor.
Min Gi-Seo, a talented doctor finds himself on the island
of Pureundo, a far cry from the city life he is used to. His
"job" there is easy, but what he finds there changes
his life. Before she dies Dr. Min's girlfriend confesses to
him that a child on that island has AIDS due to her indiscretion
and she had never forgiven herself for it. She asks him to
help her apologize to the child and her mother. Dr. Min soon
finds himself living with the AIDS infected girl; Bom (Spring),
her mother Young-Shin, and her Grandpa; Mr. Lee. Dr. Min soon
learns from this family what it means to really live a life
full of love, happiness and selflessness. His heart soon changes
and he finds himself actually caring about the "hillbilly"
people of the island, especially the small family in who's
care he feels entrusted with. They soon become a miracle that
he is truly thankful for.
REVIEWS: At first I
thought "Thank You" was going to be one of those
horribly depressing Korean dramas and I was wary to watch
it. However, but the end of the first episode I was hooked
on the complex and amazing characters in this drama. And before
I continue I must praise Jang Hyuk on his comback after his
miliarty service. He was brilliant!
Each and every character in this drama touches your heart,
(Especially Bom, her grandpa; Mr. Lee, and Dr. Min)
This drama was actually based on a very "taboo"
subject for a K-drama; how people react and treat someone
with AIDS. I thought the writers, producers, etc...did an
amazing job handling this topic. They didn't spend too much
time dwelling on the fact that Bom had AIDS, but instead how
her mother, her and her Grandpa lived every day life with
happiness, gumption and heart. The relationship dynamics in
this drama between Bom, Young Shik (the mom) and Mr. Lee was
just remarkable. I can't say enough about these characters.
And once Dr. Min enters the picture the relationships get
even deeper. Dr. Min's character at first seems very shallow
and tense, but we soon discover how deep he really is, how
loving and considerate he is. I ended up falling in love with
him along with Young Shik!
This is a truly WONDERFUL drama. I recommend this to anyone
who needs a feel good story. I did cry a little, but it wasn't
depressing at all, instead it was hopeful and uplifting as
every good drama should be.
Congrats to the cast and crew of Komapsumnida for making a
marvelous drama!
