STORYLINE

Young-mi may have lost her parents at an early age but she never felt alone. A mysterious person, as she calls him Daddy Long Legs, helped her get through life even with college expenses. Coincidental as she thought, her blessings never ceased. She was able to get a job in a radio station as a segment writer and live in a house for free.

While preparing for her work, she accidentally opened a post-dated email written by the house owner to herself about her unprofessed love. Feeling responsible, Young-mi decided to play it on air so that the right person would get the message.

Joon-ho's simplicity has captured Young-mi's heart. It only took a couple of chance meetings for them to realize that they have a wonderful chemistry. They have same interests and passions. As they became closer, Young-mi saw a lot of resemblance between Joon-ho and the one talked about in the emails. She then thought that he could be the person she's been looking for.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: SPOILER ALERT :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Young-mi continuously receives gifts from Daddy Long Legs. When she found out the closest link to the mystery, she learned that the person that sends her presents is the company director. He was doing it as a favor for his brother, Joon-ho, who's been deeply in love with her ever since. But, because of his illness, Joon-ho starts losing his memory including his feelings for Young-mi.

Ironically, the emails she's been reading are really meant for her and was written by Joon-ho before the surgery.

Joon-ho passed away happy to have met and loved Young-mi... for the second time.

Young-mi has always believed that wherever you are, whatever you do, you'd wind up with your one true love. And for her, she found hers… Daddy Long Legs, her destiny.

REVIEWS

I always thought I have the knack in predicting an ending of a story. But Daddy Long Legs proved me wrong. Not in a million years would I ever get it right. The twist is so unique. I was made to believe that I got it all figured out. But surprisingly, it's all the opposite of what is really going on. I was like, oh my God! I got fooled.

The editing is a plus. You wouldn't get confused after all the revelations. You would actually think, "how could i ever miss it?". And even with that kind of twist, the ending wasn't given out prematurely. This is that kind of movie that you could watch over and over and still enjoy it.

I also like the dramatic effect of the emails or messages. You would really feel for the one who wrote it and pity his reasons for doing it. You would think that he is just a victim of the circumstances and no matter how hard he tried to accept it, he still ended up hurting.

I love it, love it, love it! Best movie yet!

TRANSCRIPTS warning: may contain spoilers

[ YOUNG-MI'S MOM ABOUT DESTINY ]
If it (flower nail polish) stays until the first snow of the season, your first love will be met.

[ YOUNG-MI'S ORPHAN LIFE ]
When I was little, my little world was filled with parental love and endless days of waiting for my first love. And the happiness in my little world seemed to last forever. Happy days of waiting, the warm love from my mom -they slowly faded away. I met this strange, big world at a young age. However, I kept on going without looking back. Although I wasn't always happy with the results, I keep on trying my best. Living a meaningful life isn't easy.

[ DADDY LONG LEGS ]
I felt as if someone was trying to tell me that I wasn't alone. When we first met, I never got to see his face. But he left me a present called Hope. My Daddy Long Legs. My heart flutters at the thought of meeting you someday. Daddy Long Legs.

'The darkest time of the day is right before sunrise. Don't be sad if you're having a bad day because a better day awaits you. This is Good Day for Love.'

A letter to myself to be sent in a year. To cherish memories of you, I'm writing myself this e-mail. I don't know how I will be a year from now. If I read this e-mail, then, I would like to confess my love for you which I couldn't do before.

YOUNG-MI: Stop chatting online. You'll never meet the man of your destiny that way.
JJONG: Destiny? My destiny is our director.
YOUNG-MI: Wherever you are, whatever you do, you wind up with him. That's destiny.

[ ON AIR, RADIO STATION ]
Receiving someone's heart... No other presents make you feel better than that.

They say love is a miracle and it's true. Nobody thought I could get into the same college as yours. Watching you from a distance, I was happy just to be around you. Entering the studio, Kandinsky realized it was better than the old one. To him regardless of what to draw, colors and lines were enough to express his objectives.

Thinking I could watch you anytime I wanted, I got a job at the same station. Watching you, it'd become a part of my life as always. It was almost too crowded to record the interview. I bet it's fine. But my hope to watch you even from a distance proved to be a luxury. I'm sure I could've been a lot happier if I had known back then what I know now. It's from a beautiful poem by Kimberly Kirberger. It's in our nature to look back and regret our mistakes. I hope you value the present and love every minute of it.

YOUNG-MI: I really wanted to find him. I can't help but think I took advantage of her love. Will she understand me? I think I was imprudent to air her ardent love on national radio.
JOON-HO: If it helps deliver her love to whoever he is, she would be thankful.

I don't want to lose memories of you. I'd like to tell you now. I love you. I truly love you.

YOUNG-MI: It's Paul Auster. It's a new collection.
JOON-HO: You like Paul Auster?
YOUNG-MI: Yes. I love The New York Trilogy. Have you read them?
JOON-HO: Yes.
YOUNG-MI: Which is your favorite?
JOON-HO: All of them.
YOUNG-MI: I like the first one most. About a writer who loses his existence slowly. Say I disappear. If nobody looks for me or remembers me, it would be horrible.

YOUNG-MI: Feels so good walking.
JOON-HO: I like taking walks early in the morning too.
YOUNG-MI: Hadn't we met like that, we could've become friends faster.
JOON-HO: How did we meet?
YOUNG-MI: In the elevator. You must've thought I was dumb.
JOON-HO: You were cute then. You know this story? A couple in this novel meets at the wrong place. Yet, they fall in love. The guy doesn't like the fact they met at a dark tavern. So he takes the girl to a rose garden. And he says to her 'This is where we first met.'

[ FLOWER MARKET ]
JOON-HO: I'm KIM Jun-ho. Mind if I show you around the market?
YOUNG-MI: Never seen you smile before. I'd like that. I'm new here and lost. I'm CHA Young-mi.
JOON-HO: Now we met for the first time at the flower market.

When I woke up this morning, I decided to leave you for some time. The virus in me takes away memories of love. It makes your scent dull and slows down my steps following you. If things get worse and I forget about you completely, my heart will always feel and love you. When the warm sunshine embraced the world, I ran into you hoping that very moment would last forever. I'm now freezing memories of you inside me like the sand that doesn't fall in your hourglass.

[ YOUNG-MI WRITING A LETTER ]
Daddy Long Legs... No, Jun-ho. All these years, I've been living a life on a log bridge. On a log bridge, you can't look back or sideways. You just look ahead and keep on going. I've been writing you my stories to make myself less lonely. For the first time of my life, I'm full of regrets. What should I do?

JOON-HO: Have you found your Daddy Long Legs?
YOUNG-MI: I have.
JOON-HO: How'd you find him?
YOUNG-MI: I just looked beside me and he was there. For 10 years, I hadn't thought of doing that.

JOON-HO: I know the story of how the Big Dipper formed. There was no star at first. As people started to love, their hearts went up to the sky and became stars. It means, there's so much love in this world that we're not aware of. Young-mi, look. Make a wish. Your wish will be granted upon a shooting star.
YOUNG-MI: No. It won't work.
JOON-HO: Come on, make a wish. (after wishing) What did you wish?
YOUNG-MI: It's a secret.

[ YOUNG-MI AT THE HOSPITAL ]
Jun-ho! You know what? When I first saw you at the morgue, my heart pounded. That's why I went there so often. I haven't responded to your e-mails. Jun-ho? I'd seen you at the morgue before I ran into you in the elevator.

[ WHILE YOUNG-MI IS ASLEEP ]
When I first saw you, you looked so familiar. I knew I was in love. Isn't it funny? In love with a stranger? I've planned so many things to do with you. Theme parks. We'll go to the movies too. Drink coffee together. I will buy you flowers when you look sad. I love you, Young-mi.

I wanted to show up before you. But now, I have a disease that takes away even the memories of love. If things get worse and my memory leaves me, this e-mail to arrive in a year will be a map for me to find my way back to you. If only I could keep the memories of you. If I lose my memories and become a different person, I'd like to love you again, Young-mi.

[ FLASHBACK ]
Young-mi, look! You know why you make a wish upon a shooting star? During the instant moment when it falls, your sincerity reaches the stars twinkling in the sky. Young-mi, make a wish.

[ YOUNG-MI STARING AT THE SKY ]
You're a liar. The shooting star didn't grant me my wish. You know what I wished? I wished for it to let me come back here with you. Jun- ho, give me a present like you did back then.
